The Bloated Intelligence Bureaucracy, By Rep. Ron Paul

I have often spoken about the excessive size of government, and most recently how waste and inefficiency needs to be eliminated from our military budget. Our foreign policy is not only bankrupting us, but actively creating and antagonizing enemies of the United States, and compromising our national security. Spending more and [...]

Telegraph To Again Have Printed Issue

On January 15, 2009, The Saint Joseph Telegraph became the first Missouri newspaper to go to an “online only” edition.
That move was necessary. I lost several thousand dollars publishing The Telegraph in 2008. By going with internet distribution, it “saved” this newspaper from financial disaster and we actually turned [...]

Kathleen Bird of Restorative Justice Coalition of Missouri Interview

As funding for public defenders and the judicial system in general becomes tighter in today’s recession, more courts and prosecutors are looking to the process of Restorative Justice.

Former prosecutor Kathleen Bird of the Missouri Coalition for Restorative Justice explains why she feels this alternative should be considered more often. The process, explains Bird, focuses on the offender taking responsibility for the offense he or she committed instead of focusing on completing a punishment. To accomplish this through a restorative justice, the court, offender and victim generally need to work together, according to Bird.
